In our reality, Peter Parker, otherwise known as Spider-Man, was orphaned at an early age and given into the care of his Uncle Ben and Aunt May Parker. Shortly after Peter acquired his Spider-Powers, Ben Parker was killed by a burgler leaving May Parker to struggle alone raising her teen-age nephew. The fact that Peter could have saved Ben's life by stopping the burglar weeks before showed him that with great power comes great responsibility.
