In our reality, Hawkeye was an orphaned boy who ran away to join the circus and, after eight years of training, performed as a trick shooter under the moniker Hawkeye the Marksman. Inspired by Iron Man, he decided to don a coorful costume and use his skills to fight crime, but was mistaken for a thief and found himself battling the hero who had inspired his efforts. However, Iron Man soon learned of Hawkeye's true intent, and sponsored him for membership in the Avengers. After years fighting alongside the Avengers, Hawkeye offered to lead the Thunderbolts.
