He can temporarily discard unnecessary molecules and draw additional molecules from an undisclosed source to increase his size. In any form, the Impossible Man always retains his full consciousness.

After several run-ins with the Fantastic Four, the Impossible Man returned to Earth once again up to his old tricks. However, the comic prankster's tricks would take a turn towards violence after a failed attempt by the Controller to put the alien under his control during an encounter in Washington, D.C.. The Controller's slave discs did not have the desired effect of placing the Impossible Man under his control. Instead, it drove the Poppupian beserk. Unlike the Impossible Man of other worlds, this one had virtually no limit on his powers, able to transform both himself, other people, and objects into anything imaginable. After crashing the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, making quick work of the Avengers, and killing a countless number of innocent, the Impossible Man would teleport the remaining 500,000 away to the Magical Kingdom as he continued transforming the United States capital into a virtual Candyland. The Exiles would find the Impossible Man disorientated and in search of the meaning of the word 'funny.' It would be through the wisecracking antics of the jokester Morph that the Impossible Man would rediscover what it meant to be funny and cause the rampaging Poppupian to regain control of himself.

616)		Mainstream Universe In our reality, the Impossible Man was born on the planet Poppup to a race that had evolved into a collective consciousness, linking the minds of the entire race in a group mind. Endowed with a slight mental variation that permitted him a degree of individual thought, the Impossible Man acted upon the boredom that his entire race experienced. He transformed into a space vessel and left Poppup, eventually arriving on Earth to meet the Fantastic Four who would give him his namesake. However, he was convinced that Earth was dull and departed, after the Fantastic Four pretended to be bored with him. When Galactus threatened to consume other inhabited worlds, the Poppupians sent the Impossible Man to lead him to their world. Bored by existence to the point of despair, the Poppupians welcomed the death of their world and physical bodies. With the Impossible Man's survival, the minds and souls of the Poppupian race would live on in their most adventurous member. He accompanied the Fantastic Four back to Earth, where he learned the human concept of love and, lonely for someone else like him to share love with, the Impossible Man cloned himself a mate, the Impossible Woman. They left Earth to explore their love and recreate their race.
