In our reality, Polaris discovered her mutant powers when Samuel Saxon helped lure her into the clutches of Mesmero who would convince her that she was the daughter of Magneto and activate her latent powers using the genetic simulator, a machine that altered her genetic structure. When freed from Mesmero's control, she fought alongisde the X-Men against Mesmero. Through the X-Men that she met her love interest Havok and together they joined the government's team of mutants, X-Factor. After the disbanding of X-Factor, Lorna took up residence with Magneto on the island of Genosha. After Cassandra Nova decimated Genosha, the trauma from that genocide compiled with the apparent death of Havok caused Lorna to become mentally unstable. Recent evidence has led her to believe that Magneto truly is her biological father.
