In our reality, Julia Carpenter led a normal life before being recruited by a group known as the Commission. She was secretly injected with spider venom in ever increasing dosages, eventually transforming her into Spider-Woman. After participating in the Beyonder's "Secret War," she was inspired to become a costumed adventurer and joined Freedom Force, the United States federal government’s team of superhuman agents. After Quicksilver framed the then active members of the Avengers as criminals, Freedom Force was assigned to arrest the Avengers. Spider-Woman, who greatly admired the Avengers, was severely troubled by how the Avengers were treated at their trial. While debating over what she could do to help the Avengers, she accidentally set of an alarm and, with her presence now known, she decided to free the Avengers and then fled. After ger daughter was kidnapped by a group called Death Web, Julia teamed with the West Coast Avengers and Spider-Man to rescue her daughter and would remainw ith the West Coast Avengers until they disbanded.
