In our reality, James joined the Hellions after John died, hoping to avenge his brother's death by killing Professor X but found that he could not murder in cold blood. Eventually James left the Hellions, but was recruited by Cable in the final days of the New Mutants. At first James, then called Thunderbird, declined, but after his family and tribe were massacred, with evidence pointing to the Hellfire Club, Proudstar accepted Cable's offer, again hoping to avenge the deaths of his family. When he realized he was living in his brother's shadow, James changed his name to Warpath. Under Pete Wisdom's tutelage, James has learned how to use his enhanced abilities to do things he never thought of, like fly. Exactly how Proudstar has manipulated his power to do this is still unknown.

Nocturne's Reality (At Attention) Appearances: 1, 41, 42 Thunderbird was one of Professor W's X-Men. He was romantically involved with the X-Men field leader's daughter Nocturne. Thunderbird aided in the apparent decimation of Apocalypse and helped to defend the X-Mansion when Cyclops attempt to overtake his old home with the assistance of his Brotherhood.
